Standing In The Naughty Corner

“Stand In The Naughty Corner” – This discipline is often dished out to kids when they do something that we disapprove of. As we mature, it is less likely that we hear these words said to us. However, although these words may not be said, in some cases we tend to send ourselves in the naughty corner metaphorically speaking.

As our own harshest critics; we beat ourselves up when we think we should have performed better, been stronger, faster, smarter, more eloquent – the list just goes on! However, in these situations we should look to see how we can improve rather than put ourselves down. Let’s make the most of our mistakes. Take some deep breath and use this time for quiet reflection. Rather than harp on our short comings, re-assess what happened. Is there a silver lining? What are the learnings for the next time?

I love how this can relate to ‘our’ brand and marketing. When you send yourself to the naughty corner, instead of sulking, bring along your positive mindset and make reflection one of your key strengths. How can we improve this for next time? Remember that learning good practices or undoing bad habits can take several weeks. Also, creativity sometimes work bests when you are forced to reflect, even when it is done in the naughty corner!
